UPDATE on baby DART
My lil 11 week old kitten Dart is home from the hospital!!! He is shaved in funny places, but purring and giving kisses again! We napped all afternoon together. He desperately wants to play and follow mommy, but when he does and i finally settle him down, his breathing gets heavy again like an asthma attack. But he is alive and well, just needs lots of GENTLE snuggles and time for his little lungs to heal. We wont be smoking around him for at least a week to make sure nothing irratates his little lung. THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH FOR YOUR POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!
Dart loves you all too!
Today was a horrible day for me, but especially for my kitten Dart. You know the saying that "kittens are always under foot"? Well, i tripped to miss stepping on him, and he ran around into a softsided tote which i then stepped on with all my weight to avoid the fall. I felt a squish and heard the more horrible squeak/gag/yelp kitty noise i have ever heard!!! I turned and picked him up, he was shaking and having trouble breathing. Within 2 minutes he was in his carry bag and i was hauling arse to the vet. His breathing got worse on the way and his nose was running. I ran into the vet yelling for help, that i had an emergency.
They took the little guy in right away, ran an IV and gave him pain meds. All the while i was crying my brains out in terror. His breathing was still labored. He was then taken down the street to be Xrayed. The vet thought his intestine had been pushed into his chest and had to give him Barium contrast to be able to tell.
The vet then sent me to this state of the art amazing vet hospital for further treatment. They did another Xray and i saw the specialist. He told me that the results were the best possible of the symptoms and would not require surgery. He has a COLLAPSED LUNG!!! I smushed my kittens lung!!! I cannot shake the horror and worry. He is staying the night with constant nursing care as his lung slowly works air back into it. They said i can pick him up tommorow.
Im traumatized...my baby is in hospital... its my fault, even though ive been assured that it isnt....
Praise Bast that he is going to be alright... although he isnt out of the woods yet and complications could still occur in the next 24 hours...
*sigh*
I never ever imagined such a thing.... i miss my baby kitty.
I love you Dartanian "dart" Matagot....
