My first assignment at college is about eating disorders. Whilst I do have access to a world of information via the internet, books and TV, I would like to see what you lovely people have to say on the matter. If you have personal experience or know people with eating disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating, Obesity) I would love to hear what you have to say.
Im not asking for people to give me the information for my work (I have that), I would just like to hear what you have to say on the matter, just out of interest.
This is what I have to do -
Define and explain the symptoms of eating disorders.
Discuss the idea that eating disorders are a female illness.
Discuss the reasons for the increase in males with eating disorders.
Also, who do you think is to blame for eating disorders, is it a mental illness or do you blame the media (size 0)
I just think it is interesting to hear strong and often contrasting opinions on these matters, and I would love to hear yours.

To comment on your question I first have to say that I think outrulethestars' attitude is a little sad. I feel that people don't understand mental illness at all. Yes I believe that eating disorders are products of mental illness and, as both BrightRedScream and RoxieKill say, media and what people perceive as ideal beauty doesn't help...there is definately pressure to look a certain way etc e

I dont know how women can ever be comfortable with such conflicting messages.
Its getting the same with guys now, a few years ago it was all about having a six-pack. Now its about have visable hip-bones and wearing girls jeans.
