I bought my pops some fishing gear for Father's Day. I guess we're gonna do some male bonding this summer. Nothing like fishing to serve that purpose. Should be really decent.

I spent all of Saturday fixing up a leaky Bullet. Just one more coat of epoxy sealer on the seams and she should be seaworthy. Then that 40lb. catfish is mine!!


Speaking of aquatic creatures, the turtles are out laying eggs.

Friday morning before work, I caught glimpse of a large, dark shape ambling outside the front windows. I did a doubletake and noticed that a 25lb. (or more!) snapping turtle was making her way back to the river after laying eggs in the woods behind my house. I went out for a closer look. As soon as I got within ten feet or so, she reared around to face me, struck an attack pose, and hissed like an alligator! What a bitch! Absolutely no fear whatsoever.

Amazing creatures, these turtles, because if they get that big, they're probably twice my age.
To live that long in this area you'd have to cop a nasty attitude, no matter what species you are.

Come late August, I'll keep an eye out for her offspring as they make their way back toward the river. Maybe I can catch one and raise it. Teach it to attack the mailman.
