If you have the chance to see Flogging Molly live, do it.

Not kidding...walk, run, drive or hitchhike...just do what you can to see them, cause they put on a hell of a show.

They're currently headlining the Green 17 tour, which hit scenic Sayreville NJ last friday night. It was four hours of awesomeness.

It opened with a singer from Ireland (whose name I forget) who played a few songs on an acoustic guitar to get the crowd warmed up.

Next up was Two Point Eight, a punk band from Sweden. They sound a lot like Rancid. Good stuff, they got the crowd moving.

After the swedes we got a song from the Yonkers Fire dept bag & drum band...lets face it, at an irish themed event you can't go wrong with guys in kilts with bagpipes...it's kind of expected.

Now we got to the main acts...first up was Street Dog, a Boston based, working class rock band. I hadn't heard of them before but left a fan. They did a high energy, pit encouraging set, with an added bonus...Mike McColgan, the lead singer, used to be with the Dropkick Murphys and played my favorite Murphys tune, Road of the Righteous. If you haven't heard them, check 'em out..they got the place jumpin'.

But, as jumping as it was, the energy level went up like ten times when Flogging Molly hit the stage. If you haven't heard their music, the best way I can describe it is traditional irish music meets rock/punk (it's not often you see crowd surfers in front of a band with an accordian, banjo and fiddle players). It's high energy but still captures that irish feel that makes you want to get up, move your feet and sing along. They love to perform and it shows. The place went nuts. They even played some brand new material during their set (are ya jealous Luthie?).

The show didn't let out till after 12:30AM. My buddy and I crashed at a hotel nearby and headed back saturday. Along the way we stopped in Red Bank to check out Jay and Bob's Secret Stash, Kevin Smith's comic store. The place is pretty cool, they've got a lot of the props from his movies hanging up, including all the fake comic covers from Mallrats. My inner comic geek caved in and bought this:

...c'mon...it's a Red Bank exclusive.

Yonkers FD, New Jersey or Yonkers FD, New York?

I know a BUNCH of the guys at Yonkers in NY. I'm not sure if there's a Yonkers in NJ confused I'm a geography-tard.

Sounds like you had a mint night. biggrin I'm not much for live bands because they can be so disappointing, but if I get a chance to see this one, I might just have to check that out.

Gotta love Kevin Smith. He's one funny dude.

Good to see you're having an awesome one wink kiss
