This is a repost from my Myspace thing. The "friends bulliten" thing was questioning how many sex offenders are in your neighborhood. I added my own 2 cents and reposted it. In my own zip code in Paradise Valley, AZ there are 2. Arizona has a free web site with this information on it available to the public including information about the crime the offender commited.
I am so sad every time I hear about this lable being misused while so many date rapists, night club rapists, child molestors and other scum of the Earth go completely unpunished and their victims are forced to swallow the injustice and eat the shame of these haenous acts. Anyone who has ever tried to report a rape or known someone who has, knows exactly what I am talking about. The new case in Chicago causes me so much pain as I am forced to almost defend these scumbags because the justice system has devalued the term so much in my eyes.

How many sex offenders in your neighborhood?

- I have to add, sadly the term "Sex offender" has lost a lot of the punch it once held for me since they started using it so indiscriminately.
Recently a man in Chicago was labeled a sex offender for grabbing the arm of and shaking a 14 year old who walked out in front of his car, caused him to swerve and then started telling him off. Link to a story about this http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-molest01.html
A close personal friend of mine is also a sex offender. On his 18th birthday after consuming a prodigious amount of alcohol he saw a couple guys his age skateboarding wearing only a sock to cover their junk at 3 AM near the university he attended. Somehow drunk at 3 AM a near-naked skate looked like a good idea so he grabbed his board, dropped trou, and asked if he could join them. Soon campus security came and tackled the boys causing the sock to come off. One of the guys he was skating with was 17. My friend had only been 18 for about 3 hours and now for the rest of his life he has been labeled a "Sex offender", as was the other 18 year old he was with, tell me, is an 18 year old skating naked with some other 17 and 18 year old guys REALLY a sex offence? Maybe a little silly, possibly not too pretty to look at, but a malicious sexual act? I think not.
Please use this information to inform yourself, but be sure to check what crime the person actually committed before painting them the devil. Sadly we can no longer trust our judicial system to provide us with realistic and useful information, even in this regard.-

Sadly, urinating in public, having sex with a consensual partner in a public place, skinny dipping in a public place etc can all get you labeled as a sex offender. How crass of the law to take this protective tool away from us by misusing it. I certainly qualify as a "sex offender" myself based on these laws (all of the above actually). I also had a 17 year old boyfriend when I was 19. In reality there was like 1 year and a couple months between us, but once again, under the misuse of this label I would be a sex offender in the state this took place. Based on this information, would any of you consider me to be a threat to your neighborhood? Or a threat to your children or families? I'd hope not. While I never got caught drunkenly pissing behind that dumpster, or skinny dipping at that lake or fondling my boyfriend in that theatre or having sex on the roof of that stadium or making out with my 17 year old boyfriend, the facts are I could have at any time, and how miserable would it have been to go through life in the same company as child molesters, rapists and other such scum?
I'm by no means a threat to anyone. I am one of those girls you could trust to sleep naked in a bed with your SO and not do anything but sleep if I knew it was YOUR SO. Let alone harm anyone or take advantage in any way shape or form. I have written letters to my state representatives about this misuse of the Sex Offender labeling system. If anyone else considers this to be a grave injustice and disservice to the public I would encourage you to check your local laws and write letters to your local representatives as well. I'd love to see this system not fail due to misuse and apathy.
