Slowly but surely getting better. It looks like April will be my presurgery meeting with the actual surgeon who will be performing the surgery on me. And then very shortly thereafter I will have the actual surgery. I'm very scared. I know it will be a good thing in the end, but that doesn't make it not scary.

I broke my leg skateboarding at Derby Park years ago and had a general anesthetic and that was really awful. I actually switched surgeons because this one is willing to do it with a local. I don't know why general anesthesia scares me so much, but it does. When I had my leg fixed, it was the weirdest thing, like missing time. but I remember this unbelievable pain, they said count backwards, I remember the world closing in, like an odd page transition the world just slammed shut on me. Then it felt like my leg was in a fire, and people talked but I was blind and couldn't do anything. Then I started becoming aware and tried to scream but I could not. Then I became aware again but I could not see and I tried to scream and suddenly I could scream and I did, I really shrieked. Someone talked to me and shoved a morphine dripper in my hand and a little while later the world opened up. It was a small white dot of light and then it opened up but it was a blurr. Then it slowly came into some focus but I was screaming and someone was telling me to be quiet. There was a bright light over me shining in my face. Then I was out again and woke up in my room.

The event was one of those traumatic kind of events where you never quite shake the feeling of it. Even 9 years later now I still get that little :::shudder::: ::eeebubaeeeee:: ::::Shudder::: kind of weird feeling about it. I guess it is tough to explain. Maybe Heebeegeebees is a good word for it.

I hope my experience with a local is not like this. I talked to a nurse who had a procedure with a local and she said it was not like that. She said she had a general once which was kind of odd like that but the local was not the same, she said she was aware but in a fog, not the missing time with bursts, more just super relaxed like being half asleep and someone talking to you where you may say something to them, but dont really remember the whole conversation when you wake up.

Has anyone here had something done with a sedative and a local before? What was your experience?

I have both. Generals in my opinion arre the worst. I have had around 5-7 surgeries where they put me under general. I always wake up feeling very groggy and very haorse(sp). The doctors always tell me that I'm a screamer. he he They also tell me that i hit on nurses while I'm being put under, must be the undeniable man in me. The worst is waking up during brain surgery....couldnt feel pain but could feel pressure and hear a deafening buzzing in my head from the drill. That shit was scary now that I think of it. My advice, ask alot of ?'s. Dont be afraid to ask stupid things cuz they are probably not stupid. All in all Its been an okay experience ive had with general. Good luck, hope everything goes well and my thought and prayers with ya. biggrin biggrin
