So does anyone want to see me dismantling my Mercedes? Actually, it'll probably be more fun watching me try to put it back together, lol.
I've been taking photos as I go, mostly of what I'm doing, not so much of me. I'm not too sexy covered in grease and car filth and blood
I got a new (well, new to me, it is actually really old) G280 or G-wagon today and all I can say is DAMN!! Hummer eat your heart out, this thing is about as beefy as beefy gets. Sparse on the interior, but still a Mercedes, has stuff I recognize from my car and wouldn't expect on a military vehicle. And then there is lots of stuff I totally expect. It has a frame that reminds me of a Pinzgauer. And it is just beefy as hell. I already terrorized a parking lot with it by not respecting the curbs and layouts. It is nice being a couple feet off the ground in a vehicle that can drive over anything.
So I decided I like my present car and am not getting the S600. I am instead doing a mini restoration job on my existing car. I just like the old Benzes. Since I have the G280 now, I can have my car out of commission for a while as I do the work on it. At the moment it has the whole front end taken apart, I have spent all day doing it. I cleaned out the air vents, am replacing vacuum lines and filters, cleaned out the area the battery sits in and am repainting where the paint has corroded off, fixed a small hole in the exhaust pipe, replaced the fuel filter, put new bushings on it and will be replacing the fuses, relays and other such stuff tomorrow when UPS brings me my box of goodies. I'm also replacing the headlights and front grill and got a new personalized license plate for it. Replacing the carpet and drivers seat, on the hunt for a wooden steering wheel in the zebrano wood (if I can find such a thing), replacing lots of little rubber shit and cleaning and lubricating everything that I think needs it. Redoing the spark plugs and wires, and replacing most of my sensors on the car just because it is time. I will have the transmission and flex disks replaced by a shop next week if I have it back together by then. I love these cars, not matter how old they get, with care they stay nice forever and are ALWAYS still a Mercedes. Maybe I can keep mine up long enough for it to really be a real classic some day. Or maybe not.
