I have been reading 'The children of Dune' by Frank Herbert, such books on the topic of religion, philosophy and the nature of human concisnous always put my in a much more refelective mood. So it was no surprise to me to hear ghosts banding about 'downstairs' , rasping coming from the car door as though the cat were coming in or out. But no cat, then the coyotes started up , perhaps a half mile through the woods. Crowing about something they ran down out there. hmmm....mayby the cat is just spooked and is sitting in the cathole vestibule. Call it....nothing. Go back to reading. Then....a very distinctive sound of thumping from below the cabin- not a spirit, something scratching behind its ear. Call the cat again...hmmm nothing. Time to get my lazy ass from out under the comforter and go check it out. Flashlight? check. Over-active imaginatio?, check. Hachet? check. Step outside. Nothing runs away. No rustling in the snow. hmmm, do a circuit. Look under floor, and what do I see but a little mammal crouching under the crawlspace! Is it the cat? White stripe on nose- yup. Hmmm... he looks awful black for a tiger stripe. And is that a white ruff? hmmm.....I do believe thats pepe le peuw! Now is glad when I don't have a dog. Mystery solved anyway. See profile pic, he is dead center, a little tiny orange dot is his eye (or her eye). I broke all rules of interaction with wildlife and gave her some cat food, hopefully she will move on without expecting more handouts or breaking into the trash.

That story really made me miss the snow. Those moments at night with nothing much going on, just you and something comfortable (a couch with a blanket, bed, a good movie or book, hot chocolate) the sounds of not too much, or maybe a storm bustling in the background.

I dont get that anymore. I haven't had that in a long time. It's too warm here in New Orleans for that, and i have two people i live with. One of them is usually around. And if i'm alone, i know it's only short lived, because when the drinking money runs out, they're coming home.

mmmm, fresh maple,

Yeah, blood in N.O. The empty apartment upstairs actually has a body stain of where some guy got shot in the head. I've been here for four months and havent seen it yet. I'm always up there at night doing something like emptying the bathtub with a bucket (the crackhead landlord likes to show up and just turn on water around the building, so when the tub overflows, it comes down into my fucking place. long story) I think i'm gonna go up there now and look at it. eeek
