this apartment hunt is going worse than i was expecting. i was kind of hoping i could get a short-term lease because i'm not sure i want to stay in DC, but the problem i'm finding is that the places willing to do a short-term lease also want to run a credit check, which is difficult for me because of my status as a freelancer for a foreign company. the last place i inquired with even wanted to do a criminal background check. wtf? it would be easier for me to get a job with the FBI than to get a friggin apartment. i'm finding places that aren't asking for all that, but they won't settle for anything less than a 12-month lease. meanwhile, pressure has suddenly become more intense for me to get out of my current place. as i was expecting, my sleazy-ass landlords have been fucking with us to get us out earlier - not running the heat and whatnot. now my kitchen faucet (right next to my bed) is broken and runs constantly and won't turn off. i told the building manager about it, and he basically was like 'tough shit.' what an asshole. and after all the help i've given him with his computer. people suck.
