@midnightsun Alaska was awesome!  I now go home to Oregon for 2 weeks for a quickie vacation.  Then, it's off to Seattle to do some PNW cruises for a few weeks before the season ends

I just saw on some thread that you worked at an Elks Lodge before this latest cruise job.  I have cooked at two Elks clubs in Illinois and was exec at the last one. Service clubs are becoming a rarity these days so it's cool to know someone else that has worked them.

The one that I worked was a complete shit show.  I took a miserably failing club, culinarily wise, and turned the quality of their food around. In the end, I bailed due to too many people in positions of power always trying to muck with me, cutting my hours down from 40 to 30 a week, and too much interference

Yeah. Working for a board of trustees is a pain in the ass. The one I ran the kitchen at is failing. I made it two years and built up their  bqt business but before me they had 4chefs in two years and the same happened when I left. They are currently without a chef. Again.

Ironic thing is, Vida was our high school  pitching coach very briefly.  I hooked up with his wife 10 years after the fact...

Geez all I ever got was a baseball handed to me from NY Yankee Ron Guidry. Sitting front row for a Jays Yankees game at old exhibition stadium when I was a kid. Dude wanted my hot dog as a trade but I wasn't handing it over. He gave me the ball anyway. Lol
