GIVE GOOD FACE

Imagine if MySpace's Tom actually knew all of his "friends." What would his Internet kingdom look like? It would look a lot like Facebook.

With a large amount of advertising spam missing, Facebook sets out to be what MySpace never could fully achieve: A fully functioning networking device.

I was skeptical at first glance of this easy-going layout. Could I really send a message to someone and have the answer be relevant to all of my other friends?

That's the thing about Facebook. You can send and receive messages from people in your group. The people in your group can then stay connected by means of wall posts, public notes, unlimited photos and private messages. What is the latest gossip on "so and so?" I log onto to the site to get my answer.

I never liked MySpace. It has a cluttered design that is too much to absorb. I cancelled my account soon after I discovered an ad to win a laptop by answering this question: Who sings Billie Jean? Upon further investigation I discovered more ads like this one. "Knock Out Rocky Balboa and win a laptop."
It's sad, that advertisers have to stoop so low to get demographic information. I felt invaded by marketers. I fled My (so-called) Space.

The one thing I like about Facebook is the idea that you know all of the people on your list. No random faceless people asking you to be their "friend."
In this day and age we are set on e-mailing and cell phones to stay connected, why not make it a little more personal. Facebook is like showing your friends your life's happenings at the same time without repeating yourself.

I like to rant about my day and if I need to stay connected by means of the Internet, I am glad I know who is on the receiving end of it.

I may not have more than 15 million friends like Tom does, but I am happy with idea that I can actually keep in touch with the few friends that I do have. And yes I do know who sings Billie Jean.

But, but, but... I always thought someone wasn't truly your "friend" unless they were affirmed through myspace?!!!???
