I think the deal is good coaches don't want to have one or two years to win a national championship. Generally they need at least four to get the players that fit their system.

It was some Fighting Irish sportswriter who claimed that Stoops or Belichick would jump at the chance.

The guy who operates the Blue and Gold website stated that who ever it is, two-three years was an acceptable time frame to have a national championship as Stoops did it in two and Tressel at Ohio State did it in two or three. He stated that in every five year period, Notre Dame could have one "clunker," which he said was 7-4 or 8-3. Aside from this horrible season, it would be expected that they would have three finishes in the top ten, and one national title. The reality is in the last 20 years no team has this type of success over more than a ten year period. It just seemed like he was living in the '40s. You just can't do this these days with conference television contracts on several networks and cable stations and the sholarship reductions from the mid-1990's.

Why is it that some Notre Dame fans have been so stuck up in their choices for coaches. I heard one say he thought Bill Belichek would leave the Patriots for the oppurtunity to coach for the Irish. Same guy thought Bob Stoops would leave Oklahoma for sure.
