we dance this dance;
our only escape from the graceless tries.
a trying time to be out of step
is when you dance with others.
first right, then follow left.
your feet match mine
in my attempt to fly.
We trace circles around the floor,
stepping in and out of time
the way only long distance travellers
know or intuit how.
what are any of us but a rough draft;
beauty in the flows
flaws falling and dancing like rain
kissing all the faces
sunrise colors bleed and weep
and stain the upturned eyes
in step with the silent mornings
and the same fullmoon latenights
same magic
but i'm flawed and falling
cursed and bound with bile and sugar
the same lump; palatable nausea; fear
of crying or coming or losing my edge.
can you see the way the dome of sky
prevents us from falling into infinity?
we're gravity bound and always
fleeing our heavy hearts
no words for that nausea;
longing for something innate, inexplicable
maybe comfort, maybe trust
maybe a break in the circle that surrounds my form
