Microsoft will be announcing it's never OS next week, September 30th. The name isn't official yet, but the media is calling it Windows 9. From some available screen grabs, it's a hybrid of the traditional Windows and Windows 8's Metro "slide system". You get the desktop back, but the Start menu shows "cards" in the same style as Metro. Err get the icons for system settings, documents, etc. back, and it actually looks promising.
