So my brother called me from Utah today (I didn't force him to live there, don't blame me), he told me that he had some money for me.

When our older brother died, long ago, our father bought graves for all the members of the family. Since then my father and mother have been buried there. But my surviving brother and sister and I no...

I competed in the poetry slam last night in San Jose. I was extremely sick, ended up puking for about a half hour after the show.

I still won. Got some much needed prize money.

Go figure

Hrm...I'm not sure if I should say, "Oh, that's terrible!" or "Congratulations!"

So I'll say both.

Oh, that's terrible!!

Congratulations!!

So I have booked the next two features for my little open mic poetry show at the bikini/lingere coffee bar.

This Saturday the featured poet is Aaron Gardner. He was a team-mate of mine on the 2001 San Jose Slam team and he has some amazing poetry. He doesn't slam anymore but he agreed to read for me so I am very stoked about this....

So the show last night "A Really Open Mic" at Sugars Coffee Bar went better than expected. Everyone who came for the show except me (the host) and Anthony (the feature poet) was late. I found out later that one of the places I'm listed (auraltradition.com) listed us start starting an hour after we were actually scheduled to start.

Oh well, poets are always late...

The Secret Illustrator Revealed

I've mentioned a couple of times that I will have a story out and available (to purchase) on-line very soon. But I was not able to tell you who the illustrator was for various reasons.

Now it can be told.

Stay tuned for further updates about

"The Mean Tree" by Kyle Bowen, Illustrated by Juliana Suicide

Coming Soon (or at least...

So on my way to the poetry slam yesterday in downtown San Jose, I ran into an old friend, Lorin L.K. Partridge. It's always good to se him. He is one of those people that keeps life interesting.

Though he is not to everybody taste (he has ink on his knuckles that reads "FIST AHOY"), I do recommend (to those of you that are strong)...

So I just got back from the San Jose Poetry Slam. I did not have my new poem memorized and I wouldn't have even read it except I had a deal with another poet to read a new piece

(if you want details of the deal read my lj http://www.livejournal.com/users/mentula )

It must have been okay though because I tied for first (against a very...

So I've been trying to memorize my new poem for the slam tonight. I don't think I'm gonna be able to do it. I am probably going to have to take paper to the stage with me.

I consider this a failure.

Especially as I tell every poet I help "Get it off page!"

Tonight I will be told, "Teacher, teach thyself"

and I'll deserve...

So Tuesday I'm gonna debut my new spoken word piece (the one I posted here on August 5th).

At The San Jose Poetry Slam. Waves Smokehouse, 65 Post Street, San Jose, CA, 8pm to 11pm.

I think the cover there is 6 dollars (hope I have it).

I also hope I see some of you there.

He is indeed a very charismatic monkey.

I do have a lj but I am not maintaining it. Just just serves as a purpose for certain people to find me if they need to.
