It seems to me there are far too many half or partial connections to other people. While I understand the need for self-protection and, of the people in one's life, the vast majority will remain at arms length (or further), nevertheless by being complete open, honest and even vulnerable to the important people in one's life it allows bad situations to become growing experiences. i.e. the car breaking down on the cross country trip can be something that is a positive and wonderous thing, laughing at misfortune and facing the adventure head-on, if you are at ease and open with the people you are with. On the other hand, if you are guarded against them, it rapidly descents into a cloying and difficult hassle, filled with conflict and bad feeling.

Fear of intimacy is something I have struggled with my entire life. I'm going to make some efforts to amend this
