So I go into my local cheap cigarette store to buy some cheap tobacco. There are several people ahead of me in line including an older African-American Gentleman and a young man I presume was his son. The man behind the counter is Punjabi. He asks the younger man to show him some identification. The older man objects "I'm buying them, not him,"

"Yes," say the clerk, "But you are buying them for him and I must see some I.D."

The older gentleman then started (in a manner that made me think he had been drinking) to say how he has been oppressed for five-hundred years and that this is the latest act in this tragic story. This lament goes on for some time and was rather entertaining, until he got to the part when he compares his experience to the clerk's (in his imagination anyway). "You Rag-heads been here less than a hundred years, and you think you own everything"

He turned to me after a continued rant.

"You see what he's doing?"

I answer, "I would be more that happy to testify in court...on his behalf. Because what you just did was a hate-crime."
