My thyroid is hyperactive. On Friday I took 30 millicuries of Iodine-131 that should gradually shrink my thyroid over the next 2 months.

My favorite rules:
4. The radioactive iodine will be slowly released from your body through urine, sweat, and saliva for a period of time.

7. You should not prepare food for other family members for 3 days following your treatment. It is best to use disposable plastic gloves during food preparation. These gloves can be discarded in the trash after use.

8. Sinks, bathtubs, showers, and toilets should be rinsed or flushed with water several times after use for 3 days. As an added precaution, men who have received treatment should sit on the toilet while urinating. This prevents potential iodine contamination of the toilet seat and floor from urine spray.

9. No kissing or other intimate contact with another person is permissible for 3 days following your treatment. (My Favorite)

13. If you are a woman of childbearing age, you should not become pregnant for 9 months following the treatment.
