It has everything a growing boy loves except maybe dinosaurs...although one could argue the Rancor is close enough.

My attempts to build a lifter thus far have failed. The lifter is built. The power supply is done. Nothing happens. I have a sneaking suspicion I have the damn thing hooked up wrong. I wish I had taken an electrical engineering class in college. It really isn't helping that the power supply scares me a little. The fucker delivers 25,000 Volts. I'm pretty sure the current is low enough to be non lethal, but that doesn't mean the shock won't hurt like a fat man sitting on my head. I'm not afraid to admit pain scares me a bit. Hmm...I should see if there's an SG group for electrical craps.

Uh, the light bulb idea is done with the main power OFF. All you are doing is making sure the wiring is complete (wires break inside sometimes) and if connection are making a closed circuit. I know how to use a multi-meter but I would have to come there. Where do you live? If it's not on the ground floor, does it have an elevator?

Voltage isn't measured in series. It's measured in parallel.

If you are measuring AC then there is no "positive-negative" the meter knows what to expect.
