I was lying in bed last night, wide awake, and I got this idea in my head that I must own The Police "Ghost in the Machine" CD. Why? I don't know. So it made me really start thinking. That was one of those albums that just affected me the first time I heard it. Then I started thinking about all of the other songs and albums in my life that meant something.

Thnk about it:
What was the first album you purchased?
What song reminds you of an entire summer?
What albums completely changed your musical taste?
What was the song that you knew if you played it for a love interest, they would know exactly how you felt?
What was your worst break up album?
What song will you sing at the top of your lungs every chance you get?
What song will make you dance even if you don't dance?
What album reminds you of a night of steamy sex?

I was wide awake thinking of this shit. Then I started thinking about even crazier ways that nusic affected me. Take Michael Jackson "Thriller", for example. That album was monumental when I was in 6th grade. I wanted to wear a red pleather jacket with zippers and a sparkle glove on one hand for fuck's sake! Music did that to me.

Then I started thinking of all the live music I've seen over the years. What live performance made you say wow? I don't mean seeing your favorite band live, I mean what made you say "WOW!". I saw The Cranes open for The Cure at Nassau Colleseum around 1992. When Cranes went on, they put up a wall of sound that was so fucking mind blowing. When they finished the set, they slammed two guitars together in mid air, let them hit the floor, and walked off stage. There was feedback for what seemed like an eternity. I said WOW! Later that night, I broke up with my girlfriend. She'd never heard The Cure before that night, and later she told me she thought they were "just o.k.".

So what does this all mean? I like music. Music means a lot to me, and I can't ever imagine life without it.

Oh, and I did buy "Ghost in the Machine" on the way to work. I'll sleep better tonight.

jane's addictions nothing shocking always reminds me of summer...I spent the entire summer before by senior year of high school at house in nantucket with my family...that was the only disc I brought and I must have listened to it a million times...whenever I hear the song summertime rolls, I can practically smell sea spray...

I'm convinced that I'm a hobo magnet...they don't tell me their life story, they ask me if I need help with something...I think that's ironic considering they're homeless...I also always look kinda clueless, so that probably has a lot to do with it...

We should talk about this music addiction that we both seem to have over the phone sometime. However, I think we may never get off of the phone! I've always been a HBMS fan, myself, so it'd be way cool to see what they've done with Jack Johnson. As far as the Kaiser Chiefs are concerned, they are WAY better live than they are on their recorded studio effort, I think anyway. And that's cool that you got the same feel from "I predict a riot"...I thought it screamed Ramones influence. ok, so to answer your questions:

1. My first tape with MY OWN cash was Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream (though I remember having gish in my hand at the time, but I just thought "Cherub Rock" rocked way hard!). My first CD was The Counting Crows. August and everything after.

2. Sublime's self titled reminds me of summer, a million times over. When this time of year rolls around, they are ALWAYS on my cd player.

3. Led Zepplin's physical graffitti, on vinyl, no less. Dad had it. I jumped on my trampolene to it at 3 years old. Black Oak Arkansas made me understand southern rock, and what it should be. Lauren Hill's first release inspired me to explore conscious rap. In 9th grade, when Bob Marley's "Legends" came out, I was hooked. After hearing that album, I went on a total quest to find out what this thing called reggae was. It's been bliss ever since.

4. I am a hopeless romantic, so there is no ONE song. However, there are a couple of songs on Van Morrison's Moondance and Asteral Weeks releases that I want to make love to some day....

5. A Perfect Circle's Mer de Noms. From start to finish, it seemed to have told the story of a true heartbreak I expirenced two years ago. Needless to say, I can no longer listen to this album without it tugging at my heart strings.

6. I will sing to just about any song. The Rolling Stone's "wild Horses", always Van Morrison's "Brown eyed girl", becasue I mean, c'mon, that IS my theme song!

7. I love to dance. Again, I will move to just about anything!

8. A song by Third Eye Blind, on their first release. The song title escapes me, but it's track 11. Unfortunately, not a lot of the guys that I've been with have liked to have music on while gettin' it on. A Shame, I know frown whatever

So, hope that has answered your questions, luv. Sorry it took song long for me to wswing back through. But again, let's keep in touch...you seem to be the ONLY one I can talk to about my habit right now. Lmao!!! wink ooo aaa kiss
