Tomorrow is a national holiday. And it seems that we do not know what to do to "celebrate" Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. I have the day off and I will tell you how I will celebrate it. I will continue packing as I need to do so BADLY. I will try to wash the kitties. And I will spend a little time thinking about Dr. King's vision for humanity. I always do. Americans are the worst perpetrators of racism, in my opinion. I think about how things have changed in the last 50 years, and I want the changes to be greater in the next 50. And I think about this.....if I ever have a child, I will do my damnedest to teach him/or her that there are no differences between groups of people, just differences person to person.
And yes, I grew up in the state in which Dr. King was killed, so I have heard racist remarks all my life. But the funny thing is....I am a minority, even though I look like the whitest person ever. Which ONLY proves my point, LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!!! We need to judge ONLY by a person's character. I need another copy of my favorite story, "Desiree's Baby" by Kate Chopin. Do yourself a favor and read that short story. Kate Chopin has touched my heart, and is truly one of the greats.
