Trying to recall my earliest memories.

1965 and 1966: I was less than three years old. Waiting at the Greyhound Terminal (August,October or September 1965) next to the diner my grandfather worked at during the Great Depression. He served Baby Face Nelson coffee there once when the Dillinger Gang was running around the upper Midwest. My mother was pregnant with my youngest brother. My grandfather met us at the station. I think we had come up to the city so that my Mom could see her doctor.

We lived on the edge of town near the river. It used to flood. I was terrified of floods. I woke my parents up one night because I was sure there was a flood.

Nearby was a small farm with a horse or a pony. My younger brother and I crawled under the fence to go visit the pony. We were saying hello to him when my very angry mother came down the street looking for us.

The day they towed away my mom's car. It was a big green Studebaker. I watched from inside the living room. I was amazed to see it leave so suddenly in such a way.

A bird flew into the window of our screened in porch. I found it dead. I think it was a cardinal.

My friends gave me a going-away party in a little shed or out building behind their house. I got there early and the chased me off because they weren't ready yet. I went home crying. They came and found me and we had a real good time.

There was an entrance to our attic in the bedroom I shared with my brother. I looked in once and realized there was no regular floor. I was sure I'd fall through.

My Dad owned a bar. We used to go there to see him. I think we had lunch there. I pushed my brother's stroller. There was some sort of church on the way home with two broad stone staircases leading up to the front door. Everyday, I had to walk up and down each staircase before we passed the church.

First Historical Events: I recall watching something about one of the assassinations in 68. I think it was Bobby Kennedy. I remember both of them, but I think I only saw the news of one on TV. I remember the chaos of the Democratic Convention in Chicago. I asked my Dad why things were so crazy and he told me because they were Democrats. I decided I'd be a Republican. I was a big Nixon guy in 1972. I stayed with that party until 1981.

I remember watching Vietnam on the news. I remember Walter Cronkite reading the score each evening. I remember not understanding why gorillas were killing American soldiers in Vietnam. I remember the student riots at the University and the race riots in Milwaukee.

Well, I figure its near Baltimore. Now I have a reserach/Google Earth challenge when I get back to the US and have the bandwidth for that sort of thing.
