Today...from 8:30 to 5:15 i worked, as usual, and after work i came home, got Nick, and Debbie came over. We went to Port to take some pictures, and then I went skating with Elajiah. My whole body feels like i was thrown into a pit of fire. i got sunburned soooo bad.
And from my exhausting day, i'm gonna go fall into bed and melt. g'night...love ya's.
okay...lots of IMs and it looks like i'm not going to sleep anytime soon, so here's a story. finish it:
She wandered off the broken street with the glare of the flashing lamp in her eyes. Collapsing on the pavement, she hunched up with her knees to her chest and started gnawing on a fingernail. It was getting on near one a.m. and the traffic had begun to slow, so that a car passed maybe once every ten minutes instead of three. How come the same car was passing consecutively then? She crawled over to a dumpster and brought out the last can of beer from her backpack. It would do for the night...at least she could get warm with it.
The car that had been circling stopped...three men stepped out...looked at the girl speculatively. She wore black faded jeans and a ripped up shirt that bore the logo of some obscene local band. Her shoes were canvas with holes in them and marker designs up the sides. Her features were hidden in the shadow of the dumpster, but when she realized they were walking in her direction, she startled and stood.
"what the fuck do you want..."

She looked at them warily for a second... waiting for something.
The men stopped walking when they reached her. The one who had spoken before looked down at her. "Cicero." He said, matter of factly.
"Checking," She said, holding her earpiece closer to her head. "Cleared. Follow me." Slowly, she struggled to her feet, never loosing the veneer of a faded drunkard. She turned and sauntered down the alleyway. The men followed at a respectful distance. When they reached the midpoint of the dirty alley, she paused, took a sip from her beer, then pressed a button on her slim wristband. Instantly, the holographic display appeared on her arm. With a few quick keystrokes, the portal opened in the wall to their left.
"Uplink portal powered. Connections confirmed. Go."
Quickly, the men stepped forward into the faintly luminescent doorway and disappeared from sight. When the last of them had gone, she keyed the closure sequence and took a sip from her beer. Maybe it wouldn't be enough to get her through the night after all. Portal duty was a shit job... no two ways about it. But it was necessary. Movement to and from the surface up to the cloaked station was key... and the agents often needed quick access. Her role was a small one, at least for now. But she knew that without people like her, the world would be devoid of life in just two short years...
How'd I do?
