I bring them to you on paper,
recorded and translated.
You tell me that, unlike forming a language
around the rhythm of breath
(through the teeth, past the tongue,
into the lungs, and back out again),
smoke signals are like helium in a balloon:
light, rising naturally, unaffected
by the gravity of interpretation.

Things are good with me at the moment. Just the prospect of a job makes everything happier. I've been feeling good about stuff, and seeing a lot of friends.
