I'm sitting here in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand about to head into Laos. The Steelers won the Superbowl in spectacular fashion. I found the ONE book i was looking for in Thailand to read on my trip. Life's pretty sweet right now.

I just finished the book Fastfood Nation and i must say that if I weren't a veggie already, i'd certainly be one after that. Rarely to books affect me, but this one has to a great degree.

I'm reading the news about the Stimulous Plan that Obama is trying to pass and the Republican obstructionism occurring with it and i wonder something: How do tax cuts help people who aren't getting pay checks because they've been laid off, their factories closed or just plain fired? They object to this spending and saying that Obama's plan doesn't create jobs. I'm sure anyone receiving a pay check and doing valuable work contributing to our country's infrastructure would disagree.

If we spend all this money and develop infrastructure, at least we get something out of it. Something concrete. Something future generations can look at...touch, feel and see that the debt served a purpose. What have we got from Bush's trillions of dollars spent? Around 4500 flag draped coffins, close to a million dead Iraqis, two wars, a quagmire, rampant law breaking at ever level of government, fear, Katrina, etc, etc, etc....

The more I think of it (and even especially after Fast Food Nation) the more i come to the conclusion that Republicans aren't just wrong--they're dangerously wrong. And perhaps, just perhaps, they've done more damage to America than any other external force in our nation's history.

I see so many problem with America at the moment. Mountains of them. Olympos Mons sized heaps of shit on top of cheese grater sodomy. On the one hand i want to run from it and find a nice quiet corner of the world and settle down ad never worry about this shit again. But running away won't solve anything. Sooner or later it'll catch up. At least if i try and nothing happens, i can say i tried. But first i gotta take care of myself and secure my own finances. Pay off my debts and be beholden to no one. Then and only then can i decided for myself what to do with my future...with a clean slate and an open sky, free to do what i want.

In the mean time, there's Laos and piles of herbal fun. And yes, i realize that most of this blog entry is preaching to the converted, but i had to put pen to paper (errr....finger to keyboard) anyways.
d:
