Unasked for but given nonetheless as it is or was (well still is on the West Coast) 9-11. Man, it must suuuuuck to have a birthday on today wouldn't it?

Interesttingly enough, i was doing exactly the same thing two years ago today as i was then--opening the local starbucks.

The big news item of the day--Jordan expected to announce coming out of retirement....

Customer comes in saying a plane crashed into the world trade center--i figured it was a cessna lost in fog or something

Another customer comes in and says a second plane crashed into the WTC--i know it's not an accident now and now i know they're big fucking jets

Feeling like i neeeeeeeeed to know what's going on, but we work in a vaccuum basically. My boss is freaking out as his in-laws work in WTC (only chance saved their lives as one was late and the other ran despite orders to stay in WTC4)

More customers come in and the situation gets worse and worse but it's still all second hand knowledge so i can't trust any of it.

I hear the first WTC collapses...everything's so surreal "The Pentagon just got bombed...can i have a grande latte?" Fucking assholes! God forbid a national emergency should get int eh way of them getting their over hyped, over specialized beverage! Fuckers!

Morning rush is over and finally i have a chance to call my brother and ask what the hell is going on. Hands are shaking and i can't ocncentrate but i hear him say in anguish the second WTC building jsut collapsed.

I still don't know whether i'm glad or pissed that i didn't get to see it live and that it didn't have the full horrific effect on me. But i wa spared the horror of dashed hope.

IT was a few days later when i recieved two seperate emails from two different people that i knew that the event had been hijacked--for lack of a better word--to suit people's political agenda.

My frind Ron emailed me saying God was punishing America for losing the Christian way or some such bullshit like that.

My friend Shanon said htis was a perfect example of how internaional socialiism would solve all those problems followed by anti-american government vitirol that painted a picture of America deserving it.

Two people of complete ideological polar opposites reaching the same conclusion from the same event because they were blinded by their own ideology in such a manner that events were no longer seen as just world events but filtered through theri ideological perspective. Fuck ideology and fuck blindly following the status quo of particular ideological demographic one has symbiotically attached themselves to. We didn't "deserve this" and we most certainly didn't "have it coming to us."
