4 of my stories sit in the offices of editors, in slush piles. they been there for weeks, months. i think i miss them.

if i hadn't sent them, i'd say it was a bit like a kidnapping.

This is my favorite rejection letter:
"Your manuscriot was given careful consideration by a member of our editorial staff, but we regret to say that Harper's Magazine is unable to use it.
There is no graceful way to return this manuscript with a printed form, and the great number of manuscripts we receive makes it impossible for us to thank you personally for your submission.
We appreciate your submission, however, and hope you have success placing it elsewhere."
So classy, huh? But they still, of course, are saying no.
