i walked from the bus stop to my apartment tonight at about 9:45pm. the street home is heavy with traffic. but, as i passed the zoo, the cars thinned.

and, for a fw moments, i heard the lion. he wasn't giving a full-throated roar, but a quick series of "hrrrunnng...hrrrrunnngg...hrrrunnnggg"s. then, the cars returned, drowing out the sound.

in the middle of the north end of seattle, at nearly ten at night, i heard a lion call. i can now die.
