Today i am feeling both optimistic and pesimistic about humanity.Generally i have a pretty optimistic view of human potential, it mat sound lame but i was watching star trek yesterday and thinking 'yeah we could get to that one day, thats not inconcievable'.
I dont know if you have seen Zeitgeist or not yet, but if you havnt you really should. It will blow your mind. Ok some of the 9/11 conspiracy stuff is a little far fetched, but to be fair, im sure the us government allowed it to happen, and probably funded it through other people, but thats not important
Anyway, recent events have given me cause for optimism. Obama is in the white house, surely that cant be bad. But conversely this also makes me less optimistic about my own country. We have to have an election in the next year, and as always the choice is between labour and conservative.
First things first, i will not vote conservative. EVER. I hate everything they stand for on immigration, taxation, public spending, Health care, everything they do i feel is detrimental to the harmony of society.
That said, im not a big fan of labour. Maybe if i was born a couple of decades earlier when labour was still socialist, rather than this new labour crap then i wouldnt mind. As it is the country is given a choice between two parties which are virtually the same. And the less said about the leaders the better. Gordon Brown is about as un-chasimatic as a sack of potatoes. He fails to get me enthused about any issues what so ever. He will never bring about real change, he will just keep things bobbing along at best. David Cammeron is a smarmy little runt. Its a shame because he is quite charismatic (almost) and he is a younger man, and he is energetic, but i just dont trust the conservatives, and i dont trust him.
The liberal democrats!! The real alternative, the party i have voted for in the past! The only party i feel has any real agenda to bring about real change for the better, will not get into power. The sytem we have here is a two party system. A third party is automatically at a disadvantage and so its very very very difficult to get them into power, or even into opposition. This is a shame. Since the next election is going to be a close one, i may have to vote labour just to make sure the conservatives dont get into power.
I just wish the people of Britain would get up a bit and get interested. We seem to happy to just coast along, keeping stuff basically the same, complaining about our government but never doing anything other than moan. We can change things, we have alternatives but were all to lazy or appathetic to do anything about it.
I love this quote from 'Network' which is a film from 1976, but i watch these bits and i am amazed by how relevant the commentary is to us today.
absolutely amazing. Stunning rhetoric, and it makes me hopeful.
The human race has the potential for so much good, and together we could achieve so much. The technological advances we have made even in the past century are stunning, just think how different our world looks now from 1909. I cant imagine how the world will look in another 100 years. Thats the only thing that makes me sad about dying, i want to see how the human race will end up!
Anyway, todays rant has gone on a bit too much. lets bring it down to earth a little.
I want to go to america
i want to visit the Melk

I listened to this song today. It made me think of your blog and the last 20 years of the US's history. I pretty much equate this with a certain administration that is no longer in power. I have hope for the future, but I think that there is a long road ahead before things are put straight again. And I hope that no blame is laid upon those that are working to make the changes to MAKE that come true. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy this.
