I'm really missing York at the moment. Student life really did suit me quite well, not in the whole stereotypical drinking and casual shagging kind of way (neither of them really being my 'thing') but I definately fit into the debutante slacker mould. I don't mind working, it means I have less money worries and more to do with my time. What I miss more than anything it the atmosphere of studenthood, the feeling that you're pursuing something that is worthwhile to your life in some way. I also miss the people and place like crazy. The kicker of it all is that even if I moved back to York tomorrow things wouldn't be the same, events have transpired recently to cause others to despise me - some justly, others without reason. It's quite depressing, especially when added to the soulgrinding numbness of life in Blackpool. For those I have not ranted at before, I hate this place. I really do. It's a neon-lit fuckhole filled with pollutants, violent trendy assholes and slack-jawed tourists mindlessly pouring money into the furtherance of one-dimensional 'holiday fun'. As friends of mine have pointed out before now, it's not that the town has a negative vibe to it. It actually has ZERO vibe. It is soulless. If I could raze this place to the ground, I would. Seriously.

"I was born in this town / Lived here my whole life / Never anything to do in this town / Live here my whole life / Nothing to do but sit around at home / Sit around at home and stare at each other / Stare at each other and wait til we die / There's kerosene around / She's something to do"

- Big Black, 'Kerosene'

To top off this lovely, positive journal entry here's a list of things I miss about York...

1. The smell of the air. It's not perfect, there's a Cadburys factory a couple of miles down the road. But it's still a hell of a lot better than here. There's a crispness to it.

2. The river(s). Where I lived last year we were right on the riverfront, I mean literally we only had to step out of the front door and walk, say, 10 paces and we were there. I used to walk down the riverside, underneath the trees, amongst people walking their dogs and others just strolling for the hell of it. What a way to get into town.

3. The architecture. There are very few places in Britain where most of the town centre was built in the Middle Ages.

4. The vibe. York is so relaxed and chilled out. Hardly anyone is hurrying around the streets, even at lunchtime.

5. The university campus. Very beautiful in a very quirky kind of way. It has a lake with swans and a fountain. Lots of trees. I love it. I loved being a part of it.

6. York is very green. Lots of open spaces, trees, grassy areas.

7. I miss my friends. A lot. Even the ones who are probably glad I'm gone.

8. I miss the live scene, being a part of an ongoing musical group. The gossip, the gigs, the scandals. It's all very fun.

There's more but I think that'll do for now.

~sighs~

Hey, cheers for the comment. Yeah, that sounds like a pretty cool Halloween. Actually, thinking about it, I did take my girlfriend at the time to see Therapy? at Stoke Sugarmill on Halloween a couple of years back which has to be one of the best nights out ever. They started up "He's Not That Kind Of Girl" (still one of my favourite songs of theirs) with the jazzy bit and Andy Cairns annoucing "It is All Hallows' Eve people and Satan is hovering over this house! SO CLICK YOUR FINGERS FOR SATAN!!" Pure class. biggrin

Argh I cannot remember the name of the restaurant frown Even tried ringing one of the guys I was working with at the time to see if he could remember but no joy.

I last ate there about 4 - 5 years ago so it may not even exist anymore. It was about 100m down a fairly plain looking street and had two floors, one of which was a basement.

Sorry mate blush
