I'm not talking about the cool professors. I'm talking about the typical ones. The ones you become after graduate school helps you to decide that you're smarter than most of your peers. That's the kind of one my father-in-law is. Not the kind my father is.
There is little I despise more than spending time with my husband's family. I am an enigma to them because I fit nothing they thought their son would want. They think I'm uneducated, sheltered, and flamboyant. Meanwhile on any given night their other son can be caught with an assortment of illegal substances surrounding him and I can usually be found surrounded by books. Whatever. I don't think I give a shit until i have to see them again and I feel inadequate.
In the five years I have known them, it has never gotten any better.
I hate polite chit-chat and fake niceties.
If I was as unpopular in real-life as I am online, life would be a hell of a lot easier.
