Our wedding was Saturday, June 23. Vlad, Speedboy and I got up at 8:20, and I messaged Lorelai to ask what time we needed to be there. Her reply? 9:30. OHSHIT... I pretty well kicked Vlad out of bed, Speedboy wasn't really a problem. I jumped into the shower, got clean in a friggin' hurry, Speedboy was next, followed by Vlad. So now we're clean, and so it should be just getting dressed and going, right? NO. The kilts, since they were made differently from the other ones I've worn, were a bit difficult. They wouldn't pin right, so eventually we just quit with the pin on mine, and got Speedboy's to cooperate--FINALLY. Vlad had the least trouble, even though his was borrowed. But there you have it, we were dressed. We made a trip to the donut shop, and everyone there was kinda "what the hell?" about it. Funny, really. So there we were, dressed, food in hand, and underway.
We arrive, and everyone is in full swing getting ready, and I see my bride in her dress and her taira for the first time. All I could say was "WOW......" She was Radiant. Not just radiant, the variety that can only start with a capital letter. I didn't want to wait for the vows to wrap my arms around her and kiss her. But we waited for the rest of the guests who were arriving to get there, and pictures were taken, LOTS of pictures. There were two photographers there, and one more person who had a camera. I will put some of the pictures up when I get them. Speedboy looks very mature in them, and for initially not liking the idea of wearing a kilt, he warmed up to the idea, and cuts a damn fine figure in one. Vlad looked good in his outfit, well, because he's Vlad. Lorelai's bridesmaid's dresses turned out spectacularly, too. The Maid of Honor looked great, well, because it was Mishu. Anxiety looked terrific as a bridesmaid, well, because she's anxiety, Lilith looked wonderful in the dress Lorelai got her as a thank you for the wedding because, well, she's Lilith, and Anxiety's mother. Anxiety had to get it from somewhere... LOL Once I get pictures, I will put up a select group of them.
So the ceremony starts, and All I can think is "crap, we never got around to rehearsing our vows... Oh well, just go with it." So I did, and I'm kinda glad I didn't rehearse. While I broke down in tears and very nearly didn't make it through the vows, it was plainly obvious that it was because I was the happiest sap on the planet. Lorelai did the same, for the same reasons. We said our "I do's" and drank from the chalice, shared the apple, and were pronounced husband and wife. And then more pictures. LOTS more pictures. Eventually, we headed out to the zoo for our reception.
We get to the zoo, and pay our way in, dragging the yard cart full of food, out to the bird show area. we all sit down just before the show begins, and catch the last bird show of the day, while stuffing our faces in the company of friends. It was a good meal, and a great day. It was a day almost good enough for me to forget I'm off vacation this morning and have to be ready to go to work in fifteen minutes. It was certainly a good enough day to make it worth all the stresses and troubles we had getting to it, that's for sure.
