It's been said that anything worth doing is worth doing right. Apparently young Luke feels the same way. By the way, he was the one responsible for the explosion last week. So, a week later, having been relegated to cleanup duty, I'm surprised he is still so vigorous instead of moping about, much less not having quit yet, to work at a mall or something. I don't have an office, unlike my predecessor, preferring to be out in the shop. "Let's go take a walk...."
So out back we're in the sunshine and breeze, strange for February. "So what is it you want to do? Any plans for the future? College?" Luke is straight out of highschool. "I want to be like you. I want to do what you do." Well, didn't see THAT coming... "Dude, you have NO idea how much SHIT I've had to do, and loved it. You have to love this. And it takes time, even if you're a genious. I started taking woodworking seriously when I was in the fucking cub scouts. And you see how old a lot of these dudes are here." He just stood there anxious looking, so "Why on earth do you want to BE here, anyway?" "All I know is it blows me away to see you work, all that left and right handedness and speed-" "It's WAY more than just coordination. There's method to the madness. And science to the art." "Well, I got A's in trig and physics...." I paused. So did I. Graduated early and joined the Navy at 17. "You'll have to master the most mundane of tasks before you graduate to each level." "I'm ready." "We'll see."
Later my boss sneaks up, as he is wont to do. "Bein' a little HARD on that boy, aren't you?" Nods in the direction of Luke, who is blindfolded, sanding radius TDL, a mountain of which is beside him. My boss likes to be involved in disciplinary and hiring/firing matters, but doesn't even know half the names of people in the shop. He thinks this is some ridicule going on. I couldn't resist the Star Wars pun. "Young Luke is learning to trust his senses, and use the FORCE. He's in training to be a Jedi master, like myself." "Well, alrighty then, YODA." He walked off so proud of himself....

do you mean you feed your dog people food? if so, be careful with that - all sorts of foods are toxic to dogs (chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, farmed salmon, and these in large quanties are toxic: garlic, tomatoes, apples, apricots, cherries, broccoli... to name the common ones). skull
