when you're into metal and punkrock and stuff like that, you shure should go see the dynamo open air fest in holland.
it's a couple of years ago i've been there last time, but it's great!
headliner is slayer this year.

i also heard roskilde is pretty fantastic

and in belgium you should go for rock werchter (although it has the name to be commercial and expensive overhere...)
it's he mother of all rockfestivals.

Then you also have 'graspop' (www.graspop.be), the belgian version of dynamo


and then there is Dour. chaotic, unorganised... anarchy and music mixing up. from techno-deejays till bands as soulfly and motorhead (however, al that dance and technostuff ain't my style)
