When i used to have to go camping with my folks, my sisters and i would spend hours whittling sticks to perfect points, so that we could chase each other around and stab, often to the point of drawing blood.

Yeah,
It was actually Mayhem's original singer committing suicide with a shotgun. The band does all wear necklaces of his skull...they sent some to their hardcore fans, too. If you want to hear an incredible metal band, check out Red Harvest. They are from the same neck of the woods as Mayhem, but they take that sound umpteen steps further...adding industrial keyboards, drum and bass and all kinds of other crazy sampling. The most amazing metal band I've ever heard. Find their albums "Cold Dark Matter" and Sick Transit Gloria Mundi" they are both released in the US on Relapse Records and should be easily available from any decent record store. You will not regret it.
As for Amelie, I loved the movie, but the list allowed to be only so long. I had to leave many many great movies off. Try and find a copy of Cemetary Man to rent. It is an amazingly bizarre Italian film.
