I had the strangest experience at school today....

I wouldn't call myself a smoker, but during times of stress, I tend to have a smoke. This whole school thing is pretty new to me, and I find smoking is a good excuse to talk to people. Anyhow, enough of me trying to justify my filthy habit... on with the story!

On a 15-minute break from class, I hobbled to nearly the other side of the campus to the smoking shelter - smoking is prohibited everywhere but these out-of-the-way gazeebo-looking things. My pack of smokes was handy, right at the front of my very cluttered bag. Since I practically live out of it, my bag is pretty full of junk tongue I have work stuff and school stuff and all sorts of random just-in-case stuff. Long story short, I didn't want to go digging for my lighter. There was a man seated in the smoking shelter, and I asked if I could borrow a light. He stood up to face me - I could tell then that there was something... I don't know, "off" about him (I hope it's not insensitive to say that I think he had a mental issue, perhaps schizophrenia?). He held his lighter aloft, then dropped it on the ground.

"Pick it up," he said in a commanding tone.

I was actually a little frightened. Who says that? Especially to a girl with a cane? Like, I don't want special treatment because of my disability, but come on, that was an ass move, seriously. I don't really know why I didn't just walk away... maybe I felt guilty for troubling him.. I picked it up, lit my smoke and handed it back to him. I even said thank you. I am sure he saw me struggle to get down for it. I'm not at the weirdest part yet though...

"We're breaking up now," he said.

He turned on his heel and left me standing there, looking very puzzled I'm sure.

I wouldn't have had you pegged for a smoker.

We had a crazy lady staying in my hotel about a week ago; apparently the CIA was transmitting messages to her dog via the phone. I say 'transmitting' because the messages were apparently coming from the phone, but the CIA were not making calls to her dog. That would be too obvious. wink
