THE GIN PALACE

Undue elation
and the surprise visitation
after arousal imitations
of gene migration
to the womb of my infatuation,

afterwards
I sit and steam in The Gin Palace,
it's only a body anyway.

You little swizzer,
you got me right on the kisser

with a gaze of grace that made me ache,
you could smell her meat on me
when it looked like I wasn't going home,
denying and stating my intentions to roam,

all the lessons I learned in haste
now return seemingly perfectly placed,
I decreed I would travel to the Hamburgs and Berlins,
cities rewarded for a coldness held politely within.

Truth is,
I did lay with her until mid-afternoon
in the glow of ten years on,
it's all very familiar,
the ghosts of the past
sinking me to the whiskey glass,
steaming alone
in The Gin Palace.
