GYPSY LAWS

To the call of the gypsy in the throws of midnight
(I answered)
"yes" I said "I am still drinking the wine"
as though the years between were the passing of time
to when the women I knew felt much more kind,

a sip of rose to teach the law of love from the choices a young girl must make,
the warmth and compassion of the man as he contemplates the leverage of her embrace,
a tear sighed in a holy town where redemption and pleasure are served on the same plate

and I'm still with the wine on a shore dreamt of far away,
with green flags flying on a mast serving honey from the laps of grace,
toes dipping in the water to avoid the heat of the day.
