It is with great sadness that I wrote on the passing of the legendary Walter Moskowitz last night. He suffered with cancer for some time and is now at peace.
Walter was one of the original Bowery Boys. Mike McCabe said it best: "If it hadn't been for the Moskowitz brothers, tattooing might have died out altogether [in NYC]."
I got to meet Walter in...

Oh man. This is truly a loss for tattooing... The stories they had about tattooing on the Bowery were awesome. R.I.P.

I love a morning where, clutching my coffee mug for dear life, I am called to my hubby who tells me to take off my t-shirt. yeah, morning sex? BUT he then takes a large sheet of tracing paper and starts outlining the shape of my torso...

Cool, looking forward to see you again.

I had so much fun with Needled News today. Lots of great images and less bla bla from me as I give a round-up of the best blog posts on tattoos -- from a portrait series on Japanese parents with their children (see below) to body art at Sao Paulo's Fashion Week to tattooed psychics and more. Oh, and there's a link that finally answers...

How does one sum up a week of body art news that includes an unintentional penis tattoo, a rickshaw driver with a Gandhi fetish, the unexplainable success of loan ads featuring a roving tattoo machine, and oh, the onslaught of Big Brother?

How does one get an "unintentional" penis tattoo?
I've managed to keep all sharp objects, even while in a tattoo shop, away from certain areas...
Will have to read that story now...

Ya Rule

I think I'm losing the war on my tattoo-as-fine art crusade. Just check out the headlines on Needled News to see what I mean.
One cool news item was using hypnosis to stop teh pain of tattooing. I'm kinda on the fence about it. I think the pain is a good obstacle to making some very permanent mistakes. It makes ya think. Then again, I've...

In researching for Needled News, my Monday SG column on the weeks tattoo headlines, I found a story on hypnosis being used to alleviate the pain of tattooing. I was skeptical, that is, until I received an email from tattoo artist, Matthew Amey of Independent Tattoo in Delware, linking the same article and telling me of his own success hypnotizing tattoo clients.
Now, Ive...

Matthew just told me that he can also add a suggestion to intensify the pain. How many people would sign up for that?

It's back to reality. After a month in NYC and a cruise around the Caribbean, we're back in Belgium basking in our own bed. shhh? hear that? silence. no barrage of dumb questions from well meaning cruise goers. ahhh.
Note to self: Develop snarl. I currently look too approachable.
Anyway, another Monday another Needled News. I devoted it to the dangers of black henna...
