I myself celebrate Solstice and was raised with Three Kings Day, but I'm not much for the bs that comes with it all - wasted paper cards and false happiness within shitty gifts...but I am a business woman. So, I have revamped my shop and there are all kinds of great treats that are all about spreading art and inspiration. Anyhow, I'm all about getting to know people's traditions, non-traditions, so on and so forth - so tell me, what do YOU celebrate and why, if at all, when it comes to the Holiday Season. What do your "celebrations" usually entail?
I love to give back. I try to volunteer and feed the homeless, go through my closet and donate, and I plan on teaching Julian to do the same. He is only 20 months now so he still doesn't get the holidays much, but I imagine we will make a tradition of donating and giving back before receiving for 3 Kings. Three Kings Day is similar to X-mas in that you leave an offering for the Three Kings on their way to baby Jesus. In return you are left a gift. It's on January 5/6th. I don't celebrate this as an adult, but now that I have my son, I have to rethink things. I do want him to grow up with magic in his life, but I really hate the whole gimmick that is Santa Claus and the consumer materialistic shitty element that has taken over what the Holiday Spirit really is about. I work a ton, but this year I'm going to go out on a limb and cook a huge meal and invite whoever can make it over. I love to feed people and I'm not much for the gift thing unless it's something I've made...art.
