Yes, over half of a million people have been evacuated.
Yes, over two hundred thousand acres have been burned.
Yes, homes and lives are being lost. Luckily more homes than lives. The loss of life has been very minimal. Only one person to my knowledge all though there are several people in critical condition in area hospitals.
Speaking of hospitals, yes, many of them have been evacuated as well and people transferred. The health system is working. Working hard.
Yes, schools and many government offices are closed.
No, I am not in any immediate danger.

That all being said, I may be volunteering at a red Cross relief station some this week. These folks are life savers. They make disasters into something less. They rebuild hope and lives. The deserve your support.

you are right on about the Red Cross. when my apartment burned down in 2002, literally leaving me with nothing but the clothes on my back, they tracked me down and really helped me out. they gave me vouchers for clothes, furniture, and household items, totaling about $3000. i don't know what i would have done without them. i donate to them all the time, they are angels. glad you are safe
