So here I am just minding my own business walking to work when I stop into the convenient store right next door. I've got my ear buds in, jamming away to some Deftones....not even dressed sexy....I had a beanie on and slashed up sweater with some skinny jeans. I'm kind of hoping if I start dressing for cold weather it will just magically appear here....since you know, it's still been about 100 degrees. >.<
Anyways, I'm walking to the back of store where the drinks are, eyeing the Ice Tea up and down....I am desperately trying not to drink a lot of soda anymore but I still need the caffeine in my life so Tea it is! I open the fridge, grab a Snapple (Lemon one....I hate that peach nastiness) and turn around. As I'm walking to the cashier, I am stopped by a middle aged man who taps my shoulder (making me remove one of my ear buds) and says "Excuse me, this might be an odd question but do you model for Suicide Girls?" I was caught off guard and took a second to answer and then responded "Yes, I am on the SG site."
He then lit up with excitement "Are you Mara Jade?" I smiled and said "Yes." And he was literally jumping around....it actually made me feel a little awkward...what was I supposed to do? He then went on to say that I was his favorite on the site and he loves reading my blogs. He said no other girls feel "human" but when he reads my page it feels like he's talking to a real person. He loves that I'm honest and genuine and that I'm a bit quirky. He asked me to sign his hat (which was a star wars hat with Boba Fett on it) So I signed it....I actually had a sharpie in my bag surprisingly....and then drew the Sith symbol next to my name. He was so happy that he almost walked out without paying for his chips and he also paid for my Snapple....
He told me to have a great day and walked out. I felt awkward and I was surprised. Wow...I never expected that. It did put a smile on my face though....to really talk to someone that has read my blogs, looked at my pictures and understood who I was because not all the time does that come through over the internet. Oh and he was from Canada....Not even from here, so I have an international fan....yay! :)
So I walk out of the store, head up the stairs to my store, clock in and go about my business. It was a slow day since kids are back in school and it's a slow tourist time. So I'm just rearranging some of our product when a gentlemen probably 30 or so comes in and starts looking at the t-shirts. I ask him if he needs help and he says "nah, just browsing." And I tell him to let me know if he needs anything and go back to what I was doing. I catch him looking at me constantly and when I would look at him he would quickly look away to make sure I didn't notice. (But of course I did, who doesn't notice? lol)
When he was ready to check out, I went up to the register to help him out. He just kept staring and then said "I'm sorry, I think I know you or you at least look like someone I know." And I said "Ha, that's funny, I get that a lot." (which is true...I don't know who I look like but people are always telling me I look like someone they've seen before) I just continue bagging up his items and begin to go on a rant about comics because he was buying a few Marvel T-shirts. We discuss comics for a few minutes since no one else was in the store and then he just blurts "OMG!!! I DO KNOW YOU!! YOURE A SUICIDE GIRL! MARAJADE RIGHT?!" And I'm like..."Whaaa....this literally just happened to me two seconds ago." And he said "Really? Haha, that's funny." So responded "Yup, that's me."
He said me talking about comics jogged his memory because he remembered my blanket in my pictures on instagram. That's where he saw me first and then he started following me on SG. He said he doesn't normally like redheads but there was something about me that grabbed his attention and he has loved all my stuff ever since. He even complimented me and said I was prettier in person...to which I blushed and was like "Awww schucks.....I'm just a normal person who does normal things...no one special" and that's what he said he liked about me. He also said I'm like a living anime character lol....Im not entirely sure what that means but thank you sir, if you're reading this lol. He then asked for a picture, which we took...an awkward selfie on his iphone and he went on his day and I did as well.....
What are the odds of that happening in one day? Especially to me?! Lol....It is flattering but a bit awkward too since it's weird to get recognized when you aren't expecting it at all.
