So four guys came into the pet shop a few days ago and said they found a duckling and asked J (who works there) if he wanted it. After flirting with them and getting all their numbers, he agreed to take the duck. He put in a cage in back with no water or heat. When I saw it I asked why it has no light and other things and he said because he was going to bring it home after work, so it didn't need them. That was about six hours away, so I set up a light and told him to give it water. So, he forgets about it and leaves it there for a few days. I don't see it eating anything, since they are feeding it wild bird seed, and it would be eating mash, copepods, daphnia, and vegitable matter (like duckweed or elodea) in the wild. I happen to have those things at home, since I raise fish, and I have a pond and live on a creek with wild ducks, so I ask the boss if I can take it home with me to try to get it to eat (since J isn't answering his cell phone) and the boss says that "Well, the thing is, I want to bring it to my girlfriend's classroom for two weeks, so that's the biggest priority." I explain to him that perhaps being poked and squeezed by second-graders isn't the best thing for a newly hatched duck that isn't eating. So he says that as long as I have it back my saturday, it's okay if I take it home. After it goes to the classroom, he's giving it to J (who used to raise ducks for food, which worries me). Sigh. I don't know what to do.
