Well, I missed Gwar and Dying Fetus last night. My friend was all se…
As for Born, I have every issue. I bought every issue the week it came out and last year at Orlando Megacon I got the artist to sign every issue. Its a great. great, great, read. I love it. Also, Thomas Jane stopped by my local comic shop (which is like maybe 10 minutes away from my house) to pick up Punisher comics while filming the Punisher in Tampa. The owner has a picture with him, and an issue of Born signed by him. Pretty cool. The movie did dissapoint on some levels, but I was very happy with Jane as the Punisher. I really think he gets the character.
Though if I can get into the movie for a sec, I'll point out my biggest gripe with the origin as they depicted it.: the death of Castle's family as an act of revenge. It wasn't something he should have had coming. In the comics it was a random act. He and his family were in the wrong place, wrong time.
Its like they were trying too hard to make it an insane and evil act. Sure, Howard's Saint's reaction is total overkill, but as an act of revenge its less cruel in a way.
Its far more tragic and far more chaotic for him to lose just the ones closest to him in an act that had no reason to happen. He goes out with his family for a picnic or something and BAM! A mob hit goes down and his family is slaughtered. Its that insanity, that injustice of a truly tragic level crossing bounds and spilling into his life that drives him into his war on crime. I dunno, maybe I'm just thinking way too into it. But either way, I like the classic origin way more. To me, his having done nothing to provoke the attack and his not having one clear face (like Saint) to attach to it just explains his motivation much better. They're supposed to be working on a sequel at some point. here's hoping they get more time and a bigger budget. And here's hoping it turns out better.
