Everything is blurry. My uncle's company has hit another slow period, but this one is worse than all the others. My grandfather has filed for unemployment, my dad isn't getting any overtime and my brother is essentially out of a job. My family is in severe financial distress and I am stuck with the inability to do anything to help them. Add this to my insurance-less little sister breaking her foot and my mom is about to have a heart attack. I'm pretty sure she's probably already having massive amounts of panic attacks. There are bill collectors calling the house and I am stuck here at college working retail and barely making ends meet myself. How I will ever afford a new lease on a new apartment is beyond me.
Our only hope is the safe we've removed from my grandparents' old apartment, which is rumored to contain an 8 carat diamond. All of my dad's hopes are set on this diamond and it being the end to all our financial difficulties. My hopes have been raised as well. My mom just sold her grandmother's antique salt and pepper shaker collection on eBay for 300$, but that will hardly help, and I'm sure it's been a pretty emotional experience for her.
