Here goes my first journal entry....I'll just jump in as though I've been doing this for longer.
We are working on starting a vegetable garden. The kids are very excited about it. Me too! My husband and I built two 4 x 6 foot raised beds to plant in, because we are worried about the soil quality.
Turns out we were right to be, because we found out from a neighbor that there is probably lead in the soil from an the engines that used to run the old wood shop that was next door years ago. So I got a soil test kit and I'll be digging a sample today to send to a lab.
It is really sad to see pollution literally in our own back yard. To have to keep my kids from digging around because it could make them sick.
