I am in awe. Some insane person assembled a torrent that contains .avis of every single Doctor Who episode (to the point of its creation, anyway), from the pilot through the second season of the new show. Granted, in some cases these are reconstructions of lost material, as there's no source for a perfect complete set. But there's something there for every episode. It's 202...

I'm starting to see why so many people go around all day with a portable music player going and headphones on. Having music along has made things I really didn't much look forward to surprisingly pleasant. For example, yesterday I discovered it was an intensely nice day and actually went out for a walk along River Road (aka the Mississippi River Boulevard), to the accompaniment...

That sounds interesting. I'll probably look into it when (well, if) my income dysfunction stops being so oppressive.

I'm bad with libraries. I actually still have unreturned library books from 1982. I really, really, really can't be trusted.
On a somewhat more negative note:
Some of you may recall that I've been a bit dismissive of the PSP in the past. I haven't really changed my mind. I was initially a huge PSP booster and I really wanted one. At least until I saw the enormous price tag and the anemic game selection. And although I love the one I have now, I...

Did you ever play Phantom Dust?

When I worked for EB, I deliberately told people that the PSP sucked and the DS was way better. Not that I have anything against the PSP - I have one and I like some of the stuff it has - but it just doesn't compare to the DS, imho. The people that don't know the difference have not tried the two and are probably better off being ignorant - obviously you have tried both and you've chosen the right path.
DS for pres.

I
my PSP. I want to love it and squeeze it and cuddle it and..
Well, anyway. Knocked it up to firmware 3.03 on Thursday in anticipation of my copy of Liberty City Stories arriving from Gamefly the following day. Was out all day then, but when I arrived home in the early AM I found it waiting. I'd been hoping and crossing my fingers...

My long-winded response here sort of says what I was thinking, but if there's anything you want to see me write about, I'd love to check it out. I prefer Science-Fiction that straddles boundries, meaning that I'm more of a JG Ballard guy than an Asimov, though I grew up on the latter.
Picked up my PSP today after work and rushed home full of joy and good cheer. It is in perfect working order, and came with everything advertised. I've yet to be burned on an eBay transaction, but it's always nice anyhow when things go smoothly. It's also a very neat piece of hardware. I still think Sony put it out at too high a price,...

David Wingrove's "Chung Kuo" series: THANK YOU!! My fiance' especially thanks you. She has never had the chance to read it while unemployed. We tried looking it up on Amazon. It must have been out of print for awhile because the books as well as the recent spate of trade paperbacks are EXPENSIVE!
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

You should pickup Locoroco if you're in to that sort of thing. It's surprisingly fun. If you can find someone that carries imported titles (or just want to ebay), pick up Breath of Fire 3. It was only released in Europe, but its one of the best rpgs I've ever played.
Well, the new motherboard arrived. My friend and I installed it along with everything else, toted it back over to the computer desk, plugged stuff in, pressed the power button and............
Nothing.
Fucking hell.
So it's not the motherboard. There are two reasons to believe this: One, it's fucking well impossible that three consecutive motherboards could have been DOA when nothing else I've ever bought...

Well. I finally did it. I broke down and bought a PSP. I saw that the MSRP was down to $170, which is still too high for what the system offers. But eBay...well, *generally* you can nab stuff on eBay for at least 15-20% less than MSRP, and I figured something as a) not terribly successful and b) wide market as the PSP would be...

If your into the series, Wipeout: Pure is fantastic.
Well, I was right. Thursday did suck. Not so much in terms of what I did, since I managed to entertain myself passably, but I was definitely not at all well all day. Fortunately by Friday things had mostly cleared up, save a lingering sore throat. Called in sick just to be sure, though. And as this point I'm feeling right as rain.

This is shaping up to be one of those days. Yesterday I decided to go shopping, threw on my windbreaker and left without checking the temperature. After all, it was sunny 75 when I left for Iowa, surely it couldn't be all *that* cold now, right? Heh. 20 degrees out, with powerfully cold winds. I had to abandon my shopping and head right home, and...

I really like that you're politely asking the questions in that forum. I always enjoy and respect those that query things they weren't quite aware of. It helps a lot.
And I'm back. I spent all day today on a train or waiting for one, except for a couple minutes in a taxi, an hour in my parents' car, and a little bit of time getting ready. I would fucking kill for this country to have sensible nation-wide public transit.
Still, as crippled and failing as our national rail system is, it's still better than...
