Hmm, so we lose EdwardTeach, who was actually cool and a couple other people I honestly can't identify, but Viva the complete asshat is still here. Wonderful.

No one I wanted Uber-zotted ever gets uber-zotted. frown

The mods work in mysterious ways. Uberzotting is usually for people with a history of small offences who finally hit that big one. They might also be redoing spring cleaning, which I think is an odd thing for a company interested in making money to do. But it's their site and they don't usually listen to my input....ok, never so far.

I think I love my bank. Not only do I get ATM rebates, debit card rebates, no minimum balance checking, etc, etc.....but when my replacement debit card vanished on its way to me, I called them to tell them so, and they extended the life of the number until I get my new card and will be shipping me a replacement by next-day FedEx.

That's...

I have now defeated all 16 colossi. 13 and 14 were my favorites. 13 is a huge, entirely peaceful aerial snakey thing. You can eventually get it to fly close enough to the ground that you can make a leap from your galloping horse to one of its wings. Beautiful and while it's not very hard, it seems very adventurous. #14's another big puppy, but...

Colossi #11 and 12 down. 11 was like a large, homicidal puppy. I felt bad about killing it. The same cannot be said for #12, which was a giant waterbeast that was complicated to kill...but not really hard. Unlike the previous ranged attackers, the blasts from this one were fairly easily dealt with, and outside of that it posed no actual threat. Nor did it...

The sabriel trilogy is about necromancy. Exciting series.

I haven't read any of his other books because it's rare that I have the time to read for pleasure. Hopefully, that'll change this summer. Thanks for your recommendations. They are now added to my list of summer reading.

Colossus #10 down. 6 to go.

This one was a bitch. Ever try steering a horse in such a way as to ensure your continued high speed escape from the monster chasing you while simultaneously facing towards that monster and trying to shoot it in the eye, a target which is continually changing position?

'cause you get to do that twice on a successful run....

I actually found the footnotes and the appendix from "From Hell" more interesting than the body of the book. I've never been a Jack the Ripper afficiando though, so maybe I'm missing lots. I enjoyed the history of London bit, but it's hard not to start glossing over huge chunks of the rest.

I haven't tackled Promethea. The movie for League was so bad I've been reluctant. I do need to expand my graphic novel eduction a lot though.

I think if Neverwhere had the same budget as, say, Firefly, it could have been amazing. A lot of neat concepts, cool twists and great characters. I think whoever was producing it didn't really understand it though. The book read too much like a consolation prize.

Sounds like the Shadows of the Colossus is a pretty innovative game, very unique. Is it as atmospheric as everyone claims?

I just really hate games that beat me, not because they are smart than me, but because they can click more virtual buttons, faster.

You've given me a lot to think about. smile
Going to bed now though. Will try to respond tomorrow.

Not sure why I haven't mentioned it before, but at the same time as Suikoden IV showed up from Gamefly, so did Shadow of the Colossus. I haven't been played it nearly as much at a sitting, because, as the reviews suggest, the entirety of the game is travel to and defeating of very very large bosses. And these are really epic, incredible fights...and more...

Big Gaiman fan?
andvari:
I haven't read enough of his stuff to say if I'm a huge fan or not.

I enjoyed Stardust and American Gods. Neverwhere was written like a collection of Episodes and the TV series did him no credit.

His best piece that I've read was his Cthulu short story.

I also really enjoyed his rebuttal to Margaret Atwoods "Long Pen"

I'm only venturing into Graphic Novels slowly, and I'm being bombarded with Alan Moore by well meaning friends, so I haven't gotten to Gaiman yet.

I'm not sure, but it looks like it's possible I might be able to get my computer up and running again sooner than I thought, if not by a massive amount. Also I need to have my friend Eddy, who's slightly better with hardware than I, check to be absolutely sure it's broken and not just glitching because something's hooked up wrong or interfering with...

Gah. And Oblivion just came out. Why now? Why release a game I've been salivating over for ages roughly two business days after my PC stopped working? Gaaaaaaah. blackeyed

You had some great things to say in the Athiest thread, I wish I could get my brain together enough to reply like you did. You did it so respectfully and without being defensive too which just makes you look even smarter!

Well, I think I'm going to go with the "upgrade" option on my PC. It'll take a while and probably cause problems, but I just can't stand the idea of spending a month or more without my PC and then coming back to it being the same or worse.

Meanwhile, it's not like I don't have a PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, GBA, DS, Dreamcast, Pentium 100...
