That's probably going to be an individual thing. First off, if the guy's gay, no problem. Assuming that he's heterosexual (as is most likely)...boy. I dunno. I know that any girl I find even vaguely attractive who seems to like me on any basis gets elevated to girlfriend candidate. Now, if there are obvious reasons she would not be likely to go out with me (married, engaged, steady boyfriend, has plainly told me she's not interested, etc), the hope dies down a lot, but it stays there. Now, I'm horribly shy, so I'm likely to just be friendly, hope she makes the first move, and get horribly, horribly nervous if I'm put in a compromising position without any such move. I do tend to focus on one, maybe two people at a time, so the others tend closer to friend status at that point.
....but that's me. And I'd have to say that I've had one or two female friends in recent years that haven't made any significant appearance in my forlorn longings, so I guess it probably is possible...it's just not really likely for me. That might change if I ever find a girlfriend.
Editing...that'll learn me to read one day's worth of journal and then post "helpful" advice for a random stranger whose journal I encountered via link from hot SG. If you're married, that complicates things a whole lot, and I don't think I'm qualified to dispense advice. I'm just the shy lonely guy over there in the corner. I can tell you what I'd like to have girls who like me do, and extrapolate. That's about all. So, yeah. Sorry.
