So my employment now has a defined end date - 9/30/09. It's the end of Fiscal Year 2 for the grant project that pays me, and they've decided that they don't have the spare cash to keep me on for Year 3. I am of mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I've been pretty comfortable, making decent cash, it's definitely low stress, and so on. On the other hand, it's certainly not challenging and honestly some days (like all of January) there's little or nothing happening so it can be kind of boring. It was also always going to be temporary - the position simply wasn't ever planned to extend beyond Year 3, tops. So I knew going in that this day was coming. I just didn't expect it to be quite so soon - the original plan was two years, although I might have bailed before that if something juicy came up. I also feel a little miffed that I was apparently not as valuable as...well, whatever they *are* paying for. But honestly, I'm not. I've done the work before me speedily and well, but there just hasn't been enough of it to genuinely justify my salary. And I can accept that. At least I have eight months to find something new, with access to the internal union bidding system (and job mobility program) and my boss and some of her friends at the agency looking to help me along the way.

On the plus side, I did my taxes today and I'm getting nearly double the refund I was expecting, clocking in at around $1,900 between federal and state. That is quite seriously more money than I have ever had my hands on at one time in my entire life. I know it's just my money coming back to me, but damn it feels good.

(It also means my withholding is out of whack and I need to fix that. Oh well.)

The AIM thing is why I wish more people used "brb". Then I wouldn't freak out so much!

Aww, thanks. I know the comments have stopped on it, but I'm hoping SG will buy it.
